Student notebook, 1834, from South Carolina College, re lectures by Robert Henry [clergyman; educator; professor and later president of South Carolina College] and James Wallace [a former Jesuit priest and a gifted mathematician who was considered by many to be the best astronomer of his day in the United States]. Topics include moral philosophy, the U.S. constitution, fluxions [calculus], optics, including definitions of philosophical and mathematical terms, mathematical formulas, diagrams, and questions and answers on moral philosophy and the U.S. constitution on such matters as "law of honor," drunkeness, polygamy, slavery, religious establishments, rights of parents, etc.
