These four documents concern the death of Maria Stuart Webb, a native of London, England, who died in Lafayette, Jefferson Parish, La., on October 25, 1846. The first is a copy of a sworn statement made before Daniel Clark, the recorder of Jefferson Parish, testifying to her death and the identities of her late husband, William Webb, and two surviving children, John Webb and Maria Webb Winters. Attached are two corroborating statements signed by Isaac Johnson, governor of Louisiana; Charles Gayarré, secretary of state; and William Mure, British consul at New Orleans (1846). Also included is a statement by Maria W. Winters to the London firm of Bell, Steward & Lloyd regarding her marriage contract (1848).
