This fonds consists of materials related to a biography of Marshall McLuhan which Gordon published in 1997 and was titled Marshall McLuhan: Escape into Understanding. The fonds includes correspondence with publishers, reviewers, and others; Gordon's curriculum vitae; a draft of the biography; newspaper clippings and copies of reviews; and research materials. The fonds also includes working papers from three books which Gordon edited: McLuhan Unbound, Understanding Media (Critical Edition), and The Classical Trivium: The Place of Thomas Nashe in the Learning of his Time.

Author and educator W. Terrence Gordon was born in Montreal, Quebec, 14 October 1942. He attended the University of Toronto and received a B.A. Honours in French and Italian (1966), a M.A. in French (1967), and a PhD in French and Linguistics (1972). Gordon began his teaching career at the University of Alberta as an assistant professor of French and romance linguistics (1970-1972).
