The Congressional papers of Representative Francis Dorn were donated by Mr. Dorn in 1965 to the Brookyn College Library through the contact of History Department Professors A. E. Eisenstadt and Richard Polenberg. With his 1960 defeat, Congressman Dorn discarded ninety indexed file cabinets containing most of his Congressional papers, but did save his constituency correspondence from his last term, anticipating an electoral comeback in 1962. The papers Dorn donated to Brooklyn College were with conditions that they would not be "published without written permission and that students may be allowed to use the collection without restrictions." Consisting of 26 document sized boxes, the Francis E. Dorn papers are mainly from constitutent legislative work for the 86th Congress: 1959-1960, though some predate it. The papers are arranged according to the classification headings given on correspondents last names. The bulk of the materials cover issues concerning immigration, with letters featuring Dorn communicating to individual constituents, and State Department officials. Relating almost entirely to his legislative prerogatives, the collection is mainly business correspondence with no memorabilia relating to political campaigning, except letters thanking supporters, and pen scribbled notes on the disappointing 1960 election returns, which ended his political career.
