Consists of personal correspondence, organizational correspondence, memoranda, flyers, position papers, newsletters, books, pamphlets, and magazines. The material reflects the many anti-war, peace, and socialist organizations and issues Miller participated in, including the Indochina Peace Campaign, Friendshipment, Friends of Indochina and New American Movement, and the Democratic Socialists of America. Presidential elections for 1980 and 1984, including the candidacies of Jesse Jackson and Ronald Reagan, are represented. Concern for the state of the economy is evidenced by Miller's participation in the Alternative Budget Coalition and Guns or Butter. Locally, Cleveland issues and organizations include the mayoralty of Dennis Kucinich, the mayoral recall campaign and the city's default, tax abatement, city council elections, civil rights, and desegregation. Groups such as Cleveland Women Working and Commonworks are represented. On the state level, material on Ohio Public Interest Campaign covers plant closings, tax abatement, election campaigns and boycotts. Internationally, many of the groups that James Miller belonged to had an interest in the leftist parties of other countries. The collection contains material from or about Israel's Shelli Party, the United Workers' Party of Israel, Japan's Socialist Party and Communist Party, and the Communist Party of Australia. Also represented is the conflict in Central America, particularly in Nicaragua and El Salvador.
