NCSA convocation [sound recording] / address by Robert Ward. 1999.

Recording of Robert Ward's 1968 convocation address at the North Carolina School of the Arts. President Ward discusses the current state of NCSA ; the appointment of Lawrence Carlson as Dean of Academic Studies ; the Festival of Contemporary Art and its relationship to the course of study at NCSA ; new developments in school policies and expansion projects, both physical and academic ; the nature and purpose of NCSA ; the responsibilities of the student body, faculty, and administration ; the nature of the relationship between faculty and students ; and reasons for the establishment of an honor system at NCSA. He addresses the importance of counseling for first-year students ; the relationship between hard work, high standards, and success in the performing arts ; the need for and nature of discipline ; and the use of NCSA as a model for other states wishing to establish performing arts schools.
