Materials relating to John Clum include a small amount of correspondence between Clum and the U.S. Dept. of the Interior and Postal Dept., 1877-1917, dealing with his applications for employment and resignations. Time cards are present from 1890-1891 for Clum while serving the Postal Service. A manuscript by Clum's granddaughter, Marjorie Clum Parker, relates the early life of her father, Woodworth Clum, including the period he was editor of the Tombstone Epitaph. The letters between Wyatt Earp and William S. Hart relate to publication of Earp's manuscript about his life.

John P. Clum was an Indian agent at the San Carlos Indian Reservation in southeast Arizona from 1874 to 1877. He later served as founder and editor of the Tombstone Epitaph newspaper, postmaster, and mayor of Tombstone, Arizona, as well as postal inspector and lecturer in Alaska.
