The collection consists of autographs, signed letters, documents, and photographs including American presidents, Colonial and Revolutionary notables, authors, statesmen, military, and royalty. Letters and documents of interest include: John Sullivan and his correspondence with John Jay regarding troop movement and supplies during the American Revolution; Washington Irving's decision not to address Lafayette College's Washington Literary Society due to his shyness and discomfort around strangers; and an order of one of Napoleon's generals countersigned by Napoleon. The collection also contains items related to George Washington including a glass flask, a statuette, and medals.

George Washington (b. Feb. 22, 1732, Westmoreland County, Va.-d. Dec. 14, 1799, Mount Vernon, VA) was the first president of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797.
