The 9th day of January 1670 agreed by my self and Kochanomin that the town of Mannitootan in Takemmy shall remain for ever in the possession of the praying men : [Martha's Vineyard, Mass.], [between 1694 and 1710].

Contemporary copy of an agreement, Jan. 9, 1670, between Thomas Mayhew and the sachem Kochanomin (Josias?) confirming that Mannitootan would remain forever in the possession of the "praying men," that the town would be enlarged when twenty families had settled there, and that the government of the town would be placed in the hands of Thomas Mayhew and his posterity.
