James G. Montrésor, chief engineer at Gibralter 1747, appointed as chief engineer of the expedition to North America under Major General Braddock,1754. Papers include: Journals from sieges at Ft. William Henry, Journal 1757-1759, orderly books, commissions, letters, plans and sketches of Gibralter. John Montrésor, British military engineer served in both the French and Indian Wars and the Revolutionary War. Present at the seige of Quebec 1759, built fort at Lake Erie, appointed chief engineer in America 1775, constructed lines of defence at Philadelphia. Papers include: Letters, diaries, journal and notebook from the seige at Louisbourg, orderly books, journals 1759-1767, journals and orderly books, 1777, plans for Mud Island (Fort Mifflin), account books.
