George J. Kollock family papers, 1815-1889.

The collection consists of personal papers of George J. Kollock and the Kollock family from 1815-1889. Early letters are addressed to George while he attended Round Hill Academy in Northampton, Massachusetts. Later letters include those to and from his wife, Susan; their children; and other family members. Most letters relate to family matters, day-to-day circumstances and living conditions, and travel between their home in Clarksville and Savannah. Of particular interest are letters from son, J.F. Kollock while attending Franklin College (now the University of Georgia); correspondence from E.H. (or F.) Campbell of Augusta, Georgia describing the yellow fever epidemic of 1854; and letters from W.P. Johnson and wife M.E., describing trips to Paris, France and Washington, D.C. describing the construction of the Smithsonian Institute and the Washington Monument.

George J. Kollock (1810-1894), lawyer, born in Savannah, Georgia son of Dr. Lemuel and Maria Campbell Kollock. He married Susan M.
