The collection consists of personal files of Senator Richard B. Russell from 1928-1971. The records include correspondence of a personal nature including congratulations, commendatory, invitations, and general greetings. It also includes material and correspondence relating to Russell's trips including those made in his capacity as a member or chairman of Senate committees. Of particular interest are records relating to his 1943 global tour of the war front as chairman of the Senate Special Committee Investigating the National Defense Program (Truman Committee). The records also contain information relating to the planning and foundation of the Richard B. Russell Memorial Library.
