Southern Regional Council publications, 1944-1976.

The collection consists of publications prepared and distributed by the SRC from 1944-1976. Includes SRC's serial publications THE SOUTHERN FRONTIER (1944-1945), NEW SOUTH (1946-1966), SOUTH TODAY (1969-1973), and SOUTHERN VOICE (1974); various pamphlets, leaflets, brochures, and special reports. The collection also contains a series of "Leadership Reports" (1959-1964) which deal almost entirely with school integration and overall problems of race relations in the South and the "SRC Newsletter," an internal publication designed mainly for information and use by the SRC staff.

The Help Our Public Education (HOPE) project was established in 1958 by a group of community leaders and concerned citizens to disseminate information regarding school integration in Georgia. After the Supreme Court's school desegregation decision of 1954, HOPE anticipated that many of Georgia's public schools would close, because the state would refuse to comply.
