Materials collected by John Henry von der Wall, a long-time Connecticut resident who was part of Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd's second Antarctic expedition. Von der Wall was the first to dive under the polar ice cap. Includes von der Wall's diaries, newsletters from the expedition, and material published following the expedition. Another piece is from von der Wall's log from Battle Fleet Torpedo School in 1929.

Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd Jr. (October 25, 1888 – March 11, 1957) was an American naval officer and explorer. He was a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the highest honor for valor given by the United States, and was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics.
