Chiefly concerning the Civil War service of Turner Ashby (1828- 1862), this collection contains correspondence and materials relating specifically to Ashby's command of the 7th Virginia Cavalry Regiment and his role in the 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Other family members represented in the collection include Dorothea Farrar (Green) Ashby (1789- 1865), George Vowles Moncure (1826-1901), and Mary Green (Ashby) Moncure (1830-1897). Also includes genealogical notes on the Ashby and Green families.
