Fifty years' progress heartens for future : typescript, 1926 Apr. 1 / by Charles C. Wilson.

Unsentimental account noting recent improvements over rustic conditions extant in Columbia and South Carolina during author's lifetime; Wilson describes his early days in Hartsville, S.C.; attendance at South Carolina College; memories of unhealthy conditions due to Columbia's inadequate infrastructure of unpaved streets, poor sanitary facilities, and contaminated drinking water; and including comments on prostitution and other social problems. In conclusion, Wilson cites national rankings to compare South Carolina favorably to other Southern states in terms of its savings, spending, roads, and improvements.
