Born in Delaware County, New York, son of Albern Allen and Marcia Foote Allen. LDS batpism in Caldwell County, Missouri, 1837; ordination to the office of teacher in the LDS priesthood while in Nauvoo, Illinois, 1843; exodus west; member of the Mormon Battalion; journey to Salt Lake Valley via Fort Hall, 1847; sent east to aid emigrants coming to the Salt Lake Valley; part of an exploration company going south through Sanpete Valley to Little Salt Lake City (now Parowan) under the direction of Parley P. Pratt, 1850; settlement in Ogden, Utah; missionary service among the Indians of southern Utah, 1853; captain of an infantry company at Cedar and Harmony posts, Iron Military District of the Nauvoo Legion, 1855; Church callings and service; settlement in southern Utah, 1862; mission to the Missouri River to aid emigrants to Utah, 1866; appointment as U.S. Postmaster of Kanarra, Utah, 1879; removal to Paragonah, Utah, church activities there; service in the St. George Temple.
