Letters written to U.S. Senator George F. Hoar by "famous" individuals, including presidents, American and British statesmen, reformers, and literary figures, which he separated from the remainder of his papers, as well as autograph letters collected by Hoar. The collection also contains a smaller separate collection of materials by and about Daniel Webster which were collected by Hoar, consisting of letters to and from Webster, as well as Hoar's notes on the collection. Frequent correspondents include Charles F. Adams (1835-1915), John Adams, Edward Everett Hale, John Hay, Henry Cabot Lodge, and Theodore Roosevelt.
