Correspondence with elective departments, 1906-1962.

Correspondence includes exchanges between the Civil Service Commission and elected state officials (e.g., Governor; Lt. Governor; Secretary of State; Attorney General; Auditor of Public Accounts; Superintendent of Public Instruction; Clerk of the Supreme Court; State Treasurer). In addition to correspondence, the files contain employment applications and eligibility certificates; job acceptance telegrams; hearing transcripts (e.g., employee dismissal for patient neglience); monthly payroll statements; and financial statements for commission funds deposited in a First National Bank of Springfield credit account. Most correspondence deals with civil service procedures or regulations pertaining to hiring; budgets; wages; position classification; testing; training; exemptions; and case explanation.
