Box 4 contains more materials on honors; publications; and, clippings. Box 5 contains publications about American Legion. Boxes 6-7 contain photographs and clippings, scrapbooks (1943-1944). Boxes 8-11 and 16-17 contain miscellaneous photographs and memorabilia. Boxes 12-13 contain clippings regarding American Legion (1933-1957) and Board of Prison Terms and Paroles (1935-1937). Box 14 contains Memorabilia. Boxes 15 and 18 contain miscellaneous clippings.

Stockton, Calif. attorney, judge. Best known as National Commander of American Legion (1943) and father of G.I. Bill. Admitted to state bar (1913). Married Anne Holt, daughter of Benjamin Holt, developer of Caterpillar Tractor (1917). After service in World War I, Atherton became Stockton city judge, district attorney and president of chamber of commerce.
