Papers include correspondence, manuscripts and miscellaneous printed material. Correspondents include John Fulton, writing on Servetus, John Snow's work on epidemology, and the dedication of the "Trent Library"; H. C. Cushing; and W. W. Francis. A substantial portion of the papers relates to John Howland. Davison writes to Howland in Europe, and then to J. W. McNee, on the occasion of Howland's illness and subsequent death. Davison corresponds with Howland's widow, Susan Morris, and his sister, Frances L., among others, about various commemorative projects in honor of Howland.

John Farquhar Fulton was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on November 1, 1899. He received B.S. and M.D. degrees from Harvard, and a M.A. and D. Phil. from Oxford. He was appointed Sterling Professor of Physiology at Yale in 1929 and in 1951 became the first Sterling professor of the history of medicine.
