John Biggs "Pat" Alderman was born Oct. 31, 1901, in Dunn, N.C., and settled in Erwin, Tenn., in 1950. A musician, educator, historian, and author, he wrote and directed a number of plays and pageants based on local East Tennessee history and published several books on Tennessee and Southern Appalachian history. After retirement, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a naturalist in the Cherokee National Forest and published two books on natural history and conservation. Died Sept. 9, 1984. ...
