Denton Moore Robinson papers, 1941-1969 (bulk 1941-1960).

This collection contains correspondence, original commercial art, photographs of paintings, and estate records of Denton Moore Robinson, artist and laborer of New York City; Newfane, Vermont; and San Diego, California. The majority of the records in this collection cover the period from 1941-1960. For at least part of his life Robinson worked as a commercial artist. The collection includes an extensive collection of can labels which may have been designed by him. The labels include manufacturers such as B & M, Grossman's, Montco, and Sea Shell. The collection also includes two original designs for can labels dated 1940 and a pencil sketch initialed by Robinson and dated 1921 which may have been part of a can label design. There are also papers in this collection concerning Robinson's studio art including correspondence and newsclippings about exhibitions where he submitted his work, in Manchester, Vermont, the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Fine Arts Gallery in San Diego, California.

Denton Moore Robinson was born on December 7, 1877, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He matriculated at the University of Nebraska in 1896. He may have worked in the gold mines at Terry, North Dakota, and by 1917 was on Long Island, New York, He was trained at the Art Students' League in New York City and worked in New York City as an illustrator of fashions with Robinson and Battestin.
