Martin Thomas Meehan (b. Dec. 30, 1956, Lowell, Mass.) began his political career on the staff to the mayor of Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1978 and 1979. From 1979 to 1981, he was press assistant to United States Representative James M. Shannon of Massachusetts, and from 1981 to 1984, he was head research analyst, joint committee on election laws, to the Massachusetts State Senate.
