Mount Holly Monthly Meeting was established in 1776 by Burlington Quarterly Meeting out of Burlington Monthly Meeting. In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the Meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. The Orthodox Meeting was discontinued in 1828 ; its members were transferred to Burlington Monthly Meeting (Orthodox). Abington Quarterly Meeting was established in 1786 by Philadelphia Yearly Meeting out of a division of Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting. The Joint Committee was originally established by the Abington Quarterly Meetings in 1939 for "extension work in Montgomery County." Representatives from Bucks Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite) joined them in 1943. The committee was active in encouraging the revival of meetings where "life was lagging," worked to re-open closed meetings, and, by implication, laid the ground work for united quarterly meetings.
