Ribbon copy note on page [i]: "the ... analysis of Alex Haley's plagiarism of The African [N.Y.: Crown, 1967] in his writing of Roots [Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday, 1976] was prepared ... as a basic document for the Courlander vs. Haley lawsuit." The suit, filed in New York in 1977, was settled in 1978 in favor of Courlander.
