Letters of the Preston family, 1791 and 1834.

A letter, 1791 July 25, William Russell, North Garden, to Captain Francis Preston, Montgomery County, Va., discusses the signing of the Holston Treaty with the Cherokees and dissatisfaction of settlers whose land falls within Indian boundaries. A letter, 1834 April 26, C.C. Lee, Spring Camp, to Mrs. General Frank Preston, Abingdon, attributes his recent election defeat in Floyd County to rumors of indulging in a wild bacchanal, and accusations of being a nullifier, a bank man and against Andrew Jackson. He also mentions a speech by Governor Floyd that was too sophisticated for local residents.
