The Thomas Goodwin collection, 1818-1884.

Goodwin's papers primarily include business correspondence (1829-1880) to Goodwin in New York concerning scores and parts needed, some itemized bills, and legal agreements. Because his father and brother, William, were both well known music librarians and copyists in London for the Covent Garden Theatre, some correspondence (1820-1832) to them is included as well. His catalog of music and scores lists about 200 titles that he held in his own library. Scattered records relating to the Philharmonic Society in New York and miscellaneous clippings, notes and programs are included. English playbills (238 playbills) represent 27 theaters from 1824 to 1841. The majority of the playbills are from three theaters in London: Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Theatre Royal, Covent-Garden and Theatre Royal Hay-Market. Goodwin also collected and bound together a special set of playbills for the 1830-1831 season of the Park Theatre in New York.
