Burnett commissioned H.F. Waltman to paint a portrait of her deceased son, Lionel, from a photograph. Burnett is mourning for Lionel who died in 1890 at the age of 16. Also discusses briefly "The makers of the twentieth century." In her 1908 letters to Mrs. David Thomson, Burnett discusses her travels, Douglas Manor in Douglaston, NY, and a visit with her son Vivian.
