The George Town Papers consist of the records of his committee activities with professional organizations and federal government agencies relating to radio and television. Among these are: Federal Communications Commission matters relating to television allocation, related FCC press releases and reports (1945-66); proceedings of the Joint Technical Advisory Committee (1948-53); National Bureau of Standards reports on television and radio expansion (1956-60); Radio Technical Planning Board (1944, 1946); and Television Allocation Study Organization meeting minutes, field panel survey activities, coordinating committee materials, and miscellaneous reports. A small amount of biographical and retirement-related files are included.

Dean and Professor, Electrical Engineering, Iowa State University, 1949-1977. George R. Town graduated from Troy Conference Academy, Poultney, Vermont in 1922. From 1922-1929 he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, where he received an electrical engineering degree in 1926 and a Doctor of Engineering degree in 1929.
