A career American Navy officer, Captain Harry Pence was born in Ohio in 1882 and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1906. He served on numerous ships, sailed with the Great White Fleet, and captained the U.S.S. McFarland (1921-1927). During World War II, he served as a liaison officer to the General Board of the Navy and to the government's Civil Affairs program. Upon retirement, Pence worked for a year for the American Red Cross on prisoner of war issues. Pence died in La Jolla, ...
