Personal, professional, and civic correspondence, reports, minutes, publications, diaries, sketchbooks, postcards, and photographs. Personal materials include Allen's World War I diaries and sketchbooks; student correspondence; and family letters of Allen's father, William Y., his twin sister, Pauline Allen Davis, and his daughters and grandchildren. Professional materials include correspondence, memos, reports, and publications regarding Allen's position at L.S. Ayres & Co., including memos from Lyman S. Ayres and materials concerning the National Labor Relations Board and the National Industrial Conference Board. Civic materials deal with Allen's involvement with the Indiana and American Civil Liberties Unions, the Indiana mental health and alcoholism commissions, and the Chamber of Commerce. Topics include the John Birch Society, and Allen's feud with the INDIANAPOLIS STAR and Eugene Pulliam. Also included are materials dealing with Allen's position on the board of Maplehurst Farms.
