Severall Book and Papers, 1679-1955, bulk 1679-1695.

This collection includes a bound volume of essays by John Whiting, written during his imprisonment for failing to pay titles. These essays include accounts of his confinement, testimonies on titles, and accounts of Mary Whiting and of William Penn. Also included is an 1955 article by Frederick B. Tolles describing the contents and significance of the volume.

John Whiting (1656-1722) was an English Quaker, well known as an author and minister. His parents were John and Mary Evans Whiting; he also had a sister, Mary Whiting (1654-1676).
