The accession consists of 2 reel to reel audio tape recordings of "The Oceans 1968 - A New World: The University of California Centennial Symposium on Oceanography" presented by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at Sherwood Hall, La Jolla, California on February 1-2, 1968. The symposium was "designed for those who are nonspecialists" and presented in commemoration of the centennial of the founding of the University of California. SIO Director William A. Nierenberg chaired the symposium. California President Charles J. Hitch. Three sessions were chaired by Warren S. Wooster, Fred B. Phleger and John D. Isaacs.
