The accession includes a subject file entitled "Electron Microscope" which documents the effort to establish the first electron microscope facility at SIO during the 1960's. This file includes correspondence, memoranda and minutes of meetings documenting the work of the SIO Panel on Electron Microscopy. The accession includes six folders of material on faculty recruiting at UCSD during the 1960's. On September 11, 1961, Gustaf Arrhenius was appointed a member of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Humanities and Social Sciences. These folders document his work on the committee, and the efforts made by the committee to recruit faculty for the departments of anthropology, economics, English, history and political science.
