The accession consists of correspondence chronological files dated 1954-1983, teaching files, committee files, project and proposal files, and documentation of geophysics research undertaken by George Shor during his career at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The accession includes material documenting ship operations, expeditions, and equipment, including material documenting the International Decade of Ocean Exploration (IDOE), SIO Marine Facilities and Ship Operations and Marine Technical Support (SOMTS), JOIDES and UNOLS. The Committees Series includes material documenting the effort to build a new Aquarium Museum Building which resulted in the construction of the Stephen Birch Aquarium-Museum. This series also includes records of the Campus and Community Planning Committee (CCPC), the Marine Operations Committee (MOC), the Marine Sciences Physical Planning Committee (MSPPC) and other committees. The Geophysics Refraction and Reflection Series includes material dated 1954-1977 documenting equipment, logistics and procedures connected with Dr. Shor's interest in geophysical exploration and structural geology. The accession includes some correspondence and files concerning site selection for Project Mohole.
