Walter E. Lammerts (1904-1996) graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1922. He earned both his undergraduate degree and doctorate in horticulture from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1935, he contracted with Armstrong Nurseries and established the company's plant research facility.
