Verne E. Chatelain (1895-1991) was a professor of history at the University of Maryland from 1945 until 1964. Before coming to the university, Chatelain served as the first chief historian for the National Park Service between 1931 and 1936. Architectural plans and correspondence related to the restoration of the courthouse in Port Tobacco, Marland, are also included.
