The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) had jurisdiction over the rates and operations of railroads, terminals, wharves and express companies. The records consist of a single docket book of the Railroad Commission of Texas with entries dating from 1891 to 1898. The book lists forty formal compaints concerning railroad service or tariffs filed in that period. The complaints are in chronological order and each one lists an assigned docket number, the date, the plaintiff and defendant, the nature of the complaint, and a brief statement on the outcome. The complaint was considered closed if a satisfactory explanation had been given by the railroad agency or if no further complaint was received. If a judgment was against the railroad or if no further action was to be taken by the Railroad Commission then a full description was given in the Commission's minutes. A cite from the docket book to the individual page in the minutes provides access to the description of the Railroad Commission's decision. After 1898, though the nature of the complaints remained the same, they became part of the minutes. This finding aid describes a single series of the Railroad Commission of Texas records.
