Papers, 1788-1915 (bulk 1816-1865).

Collection contains papers of members of the Guerrant, Massie, and Anderson families of Virginia. The correspondence, 1816-1849, of Charles Guerrant of Goochland County, Va., includes letters to his brothers while a student at various schools and correspondence with his wife while serving in the Virginia House of Delegates. The papers of his son, Peter Guerrant, consist primarily of correspondence, 1863-1865, with his sister, Mildred Heath (Guerrant) Massie, and other family members while serving in the Engineer Corps of the Confederate States Army. There are also six diaries kept by Guerrant during the same period. The collection contains correspondence, 1849-1915, of Mildred H.G. Massie and accounts, 1856- 1860, of Judith Evelina (Guerrant) Massie. Subjects addressed include education, the Civil War, and family life in antebellum Virginia.
