Chiefly notes, Barnwell District, S.C., plats and commissions of Seybert Odom as deputy surveyor for South Carolina; including document, 12 Nov. 1812, from Secretary of War William Eustis, certifying that Seybert Odom had been placed on the "Pension List... at the rate of one dollar and Seventy-eight and an half Cents per month." Passport, 23 Nov. 1802, issued by commanding officer at "Fort Wilkinson, Frontiers of Georgia," at a site near Milledgeville, and signed by Benjamin Hawkins, "Creek Agency, " giving Odom permission to travel through West Florida and "proceed unmolested through the Several Tribes of Indians." Letter, 24 Dec. 1813, from Congressman John J. Chappell, Washington, [D.C.], giving directions to Odom for securing payment of arrears in pension of Edward Griffin, and commenting on the hardships of the Embargo, which "will try the Patriotism of our fellow citizens..." Records, 1825-1873, include bills, receipts, promissory notes, land records, wills, and bonds re settlement of the estates of Seybert Odom and John Turner; and correspondence with relatives in Georgia, Mississippi and Texas; and genealogical information.
