Petitions concerning business and family matters of Duarte José de Mello 1816-[1845?].

The document certifies that Mello has paid the customs duties necessary for exportation of 9324 African slaves to American ports. The petition summarizes his 20 years of service in Angola and his many financial contributions to the Church, and asks the Queen (María II?) to make his grandson, Duarte José de Mello Pitada, a member of the Order of the Knights of Christ (established in Brazil in 1843).
