Elizabeth Gurney Fry collection, 1800-1845.

This collection includes letters of Elizabeth Fry, both original and photocopies. The letters cover a wide range of subjects, from personal news to prison reform. Her correspondence is particularly concerned with education and religious instruction of prisoners, and the treatment of women and children prisoners. One letter describes the philosophy of Quaker marriages. Most of the recipients are unnamed. Also included are several letters of Joseph Fry, passes to visit Newgate prison, and photographs of Elizabeth Fry.
