The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Originally incorporated in 1888 under the laws of Dakota Territory as the South Sioux Falls Railway and Rapid Transit Company, the company purposed to construct a road (ca. 20 miles) from Sioux Falls to South Sioux Falls, crossing all other railway lines and thereby forming a belt line around Sioux Falls.
