The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Incorporated in 1865 under the laws of the state of Minnesota, the company obtained certain rights of the Minneapolis and St. Cloud Railroad, consolidated with the Austin and Mankato Railroad in 1881, laid tracks between St. Cloud and Richmond, and in 1886 was transferred to the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba Railway Company.
