Minnesota one hundred years ago : implications for today, 1949 January 17.

A typed speech given by Charles J. Turck, president of Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota, at the annual meeting of the Minnesota Historical Society, January 17, 1949. Turck describes four principles of social development followed in Minnesota and the United States and accounts for them historically: a recognition of the importance of economic motives; an exaltation of the place of education in a democratic society; a willingness to call on government for aid; and a reception of new peoples on terms of equality.
