Letter, 3 Apr. 1895, from Sally F. Elmore Taylor, Manigault Plantation, requesting "a letter from Birmingham for the Women's Edition of 'The State' [newspaper]" to be written by women in Columbia, S.C., and elsewhere and published 3 Apr. 1895, "letters from different points - toil, humour, poetry, and anything short of novels...Satire is telling - so find for me a spicy letter or a mighty sensible one - Woman's Suffrage is a topic in our town just now - an organization is to be made soon - Some of us old fogy women snap at the new time woman - but the new one will have her day - I wish it may be as good to her as ours was to us - before the war."
