Trans World Airlines, formerly Transcontinental & Western Air, was founded in 1930 by a merger of Pittsburgh Aviation Industries, Western Express, and T.A.T.- Maddox Airlines (founded in 1929 by Charles Lindbergh). In 1950 the new Ozark bought out Park Airlines and with it inherited service to a number of cities in a nine-state region of the U.S. Midwest.
