She thinks that Lewes will get "run-down" again, which she writes is a broken metaphor, but Shakespeare surely has made broken metaphors "exquisite, " as Mr. [Charles] Knight thinks he has made bad grammar.

Oscar Browning (1837-1923), historian, was born in London on 17 January 1837. He attended Eton from 1850, and entered King's College, Cambridge, in 1856, where he became a fellow in 1859.
