This collection consists of the transcript of A.L. Corbaley's diary for 1885. It is a partial transcript. At the end of the transcript there is a paragraph that he states to his family: "If you think best, I will keep a diary all the year and send it to you every 2 or 3 months." It appears that he was sending the diaries to his family every few months.

Alvaro Lenhart "A.L." Corbaley was born Jan 1, 1862 because in his diary he states it's his 23rd birthday. On May 11, 1884 he went to Badger Mountain, WA from California where he had been working on the construction of the railroad. He had a squatter's claim of about 160 acres with a log cabin that didn't have a floor. The year before he had put up about twenty tons of hay that he was selling.
